A healthy mind: Meditation

Part of being healthy is not only eating the right foods and exercising often, but also having a healthy mind.  This blog post is actually an assignment for my blogging class where I have to combine ideas from my own, and three other blogs from my blogroll to project a new idea.  My main theme, along with most of the main themes on my blogroll is general physical health and fitness.  But I believe that the health of the mind is just as important as the health of the body.

Self.com mainly focuses on health, but they also seem to bring up happiness.  The site offers natural tips to control your stress.  One way to expand on this idea is to realize that having a clear mind, not thinking about any day-to-day activities, will help bring you happiness and balance.

Healthmango also brings up the point that living a healthy lifestyle is important to your overall health.  This blog has posts about chemicals in certain foods that trigger happiness in the brain and how sunlight helps fight off depression.

WebMd is a very informative blog.  This site offers information on health that goes beyond the realms of merely physical health.  There is information here that focuses on a healthy mental state, but doesn’t seem to mention how to achieve such in a healthy way.

We can all achieve a healthy mind through meditation.  Don’t laugh.  Instead, let’s be honest…we all live crazy, hectic lives.  It never seems like there are enough hours in the day right?  Our “To-do” lists keep building up.  This can lead to stress, and being stressed can affect out health and immune systems.

Meditation offers a calm and stress-free lifestyle.  It can help you reach a state of serenity.   It’s all about loving oneself, reaching new insights, and most importantly, taking your mind away from the stress of everyday life.  The point is to gain control of your mind, and thus your life.  When you first start meditating, your mind will naturally be distracted.  It will wonder off and start thinking of other things, but you have to keep going back to that central thought, keeping your mind clear of other distractions.

All you need is a quiet room, 3-10 minutes of time, and be open.

Calming music may help to clear your mind during your meditation.  Try this youtube link for soothing music.


Remember to keep your mind open.  Meditation can be very effective in changing your lifestyle.  For example, certain meditations can contribute to weight loss!
